How do demons actually grow in power and ascend up the ladder of the demonic hierarchy. From what I have seen, it seems to be time based.

Exador as an example was stated to have achieved the rank of an archdemon over the course of several thousand years.

But is it just time or the accumulation of power, or both?

I have created a third order demon for my fanfic. He is also a wizard like Exador, so I wonder if there is a way he can grow to a fourth order demon.
